New Jersey DUI Penalties Second Offense
Under New Jersey law, anyone convicted of second offense of DUI within 10 years of the first offense, the penalties become harsher. DUI in New Jersey is also called DWI or Drunk Driving.
The penalties for a second offense of DUI are:
- A fine of $500-$1,000
- Imprisonment of at least 48 consecutive hours, and up to 90 days
- A license suspension of two years
- 48 consecutive hours detainment in a regional Intoxicated Driver Resource Center, at a charge of $100 a day
- An automobile insurance surcharge of $1,000 a year for 3 years
Under Public Law 99, Chapter 185, if the DWI offense occurs within a school zone or school crossing, penalties are increased.
