The mission of the Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania (BIAPA) is the prevention of brain injury and improvement of the quality of life for people who have experienced brain injury and their family members through support, education, advocacy and treatment. Pennsylvania TBI Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention More than 245,000 Pennsylvanians are currently living with brain injury More than 2,000 fatalities due to traumatic brain injury occur each year in Pennsylvania. Nearly 8,000 Pennsylvanians are hospitalized due to traumatic brain injuries from car accidents, work place accidents, falls, assaults, sports accidents and other injuries. An additional 41,000 are treated in hospital emergency rooms for concussion and mild brain injury. Estimates indicate that each year, about 3,000 Pennsylvania citizens become severely disabled by brain injury.
